Sent on behalf of Sajeesh K Babu, Chair, ICNDT:
You will be well aware of the current situation regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19), which appears to be escalating by the minute - cases are increasing worldwide and notably in South Korea.
ICNDT has a responsibility to protect the health and safety of all of its members and we understand that everyone in the NDT community has concerns with regard to our next World Conference, scheduled to take place 8-12 June 2020 in Seoul.
ICNDT is continuously appraising the situation with the Organising Committee of the Korean Society for NDT (KSNT), which has today issued the following statement with regard to the current status:
"The organising committee of WCNDT 2020 has reviewed the current situation and is carefully monitoring the spread of the coronavirus. As of today, there are 5186 cases in South Korea, with 28 deaths, and predominantly the cluster is in the city of Daegu and its neighborhood county Cheongdo. These two locations are nearly at lock-down to reduce the spread of the virus.
"Based on the current review, the WCNDT 2020 Organising Committee (OC) has decided, following its recent OC meeting, that they are not considering any postponement and cancellation of the Conference and the WCNDT 2020 is planned to be held as originally scheduled.
"The OC also mentioned that they will closely monitor the situation and provide further information approximately 60 days prior to the conference.
"Rest assured, the Korean Government is exerting all-out efforts and taking every necessary measure to contain the coronavirus with world-class quarantine capabilities, and we hope and believe the COVID-19 will settle down in the near future.
"We will send our next situation update by end of March 2020”.
